RIBERA DEL DUERO
In North Central Spain, in the Province of Valladolid, Castile and León, lies Rioja’s rival as Spain’s leading red wine producer. Only awarded DO status in 1982 the region grew rapidly at the end of the 20th Century, producing luscious, age-worthy Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) wines of superstar status. The Duero river is Portugal’s Douro, a source of great wines. The famous Vega Sicilia is part of Ribera del Duero, though predates the DO status.
