Delightful pink from DO Montsant - a cut above your usual rose

Grenache (spanish Garnacha) was until recently reviled or at best ignored in much of the world, but it is the grape chiefly responsible for two of the world's most celebrated reds, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Priorat.

Montsant - A little village of 400 people hidden in the hills of Catalan countryside inland from Tarragona, life in which revolves around its co-operative. Growing olives, a little cereal but mostly grapes with around 220 hectares of vineyard Capçanes, the Montsant DO almost certainly has more old vine Garnacha than the whole of Priorat. Lauded some years ago by the International Herald Tribune as one of the best co-ops in the world Capçanes was at the forefront of the movement to revitalise the wine production and economy of the Priorato region. There are around 70 families involved in the co-op and the management take their well being to heart.

Tasting Note: Rose-violet colour, fresh and aromatic, vibrant red fruit flavours of strawberry and rasberry; with a hint of herby and spiceness. Medium to full-bodied and complex; elgant glycerin sweetness; ripe and fresh; long fruity finish.
