Luscious soft red fruits dominate this long and lovely rosé from some of Thymiopoulos newest plantings
A beautiful rosé wine made with the popular Xinomavro variety of Northern Greece, with extra depth and character owed to the three months ageing in oak barrels. The fruit for Rose de Xinomavro is sourced from the young 3-4 years old plantings that in some years will provide the raw material for the estate’s top red label Earth and Sky (available from Borders Wines)
The Thymiopoulos family had been growing Xinomavro grapes on the southern tip of the Náoussa wine region, one of Greece's most established producing ageworthy, lively reds on the slopes of Mount Vermio, for several generations. It was on his return from oenology training in Athens that Apostolos began the eponymous winery in 2003, based on his family's vineyards, which nowadays supply Thymiopoulos. It is now cultivated biodynamically and certified organic.
Tasting Note: Light bright pink (salmon) color. Complex nose, with typical aromas of small red fruits, cornel, wild strawberry, cherry, raspberry, vanilla. Full mouthfeel, with round tannins and balanced acidity. Long and pleasant aftertaste.
