ILatium Morini, Soave Campo Le Calle, DOC, Veneto, Italy 2019

Regular price £14.99

Intense and complex Soave, with delicate mineral and stone fruit finish.

Inspired by the quality of the wines produced by their neighbour, Romano dal Forno, the seven brothers and cousins who own Latium Morini decided not to sell their grapes to the locale Cantine Sociale, as their forefathers had for years but to make their own wines instead.

Since 2004 the torrent of accolades, including an IWC Gold for their Amarone and glowing reviews from Jancis Robinson, would suggest that they made the right decision. Now at the forefront of the new wave production of Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone, the wines combine beautiful fruit concentration with fresh, bright acidity. Another recent string to their bow was the release of this no added sulphur Soave.

Latium originates from the Latin name for their hometown, Illasi, which lies in the eastern part of the Valpolicella district. Over 2000 years ago the Romans established the towns and villages in the area and planted vines and olive trees and so this land has a long viticultural tradition.

Tasting Note: Crystalline in appearance, straw-yellow in colour with good consistency. The bouquet is intense, complex and fine, with overtones of flowers, fresh fruit such as apple, peach and a hint of exotic fruit, good mineral tones. The frankness of the varietal bouquet that is typical of the garganega grape and the elegant hints of ripe and dried fruit give this wine excellent harmony and structure.
