The South West, the area south of Bordeaux to the Pyrenees, is partly a continuation of Bordeaux, but includes distinct, serious wines like Madiran (almost immortal, made from Tannat), Cahors (home of the Malbec grape) and the superior white Jurancon. It is also a great value source of fruity, crisp whites and roses. Some of France's most distinctive cuisine, such as cassoulet de canard, originate here, and the wines are a perfect match.
