The Ionian island of Cephalonia is the source of the fabled Robola of Cephalonia, the distinctively powerful, lemony dry white is made entirely from Robola grapes, which are cultivated almost exclusively on the island. The wine made from these early-ripening grapes is high in both acidity and extract and is much prized within Greece

Zakynthos (or Zante) is the southernmost of the Ionian archipelago and lies just south of the famous island of Cephalonia. It is roughly 20 miles (32km) long from north to south. Zakynthos has two distinctive geographical areas: the mountains on the western side of the island, which reach as high as 2500ft (760m) above sea level, and the fertile lowlands to the east. Most viticulture takes place on the eastern side of the island, where many small producers and family vineyards can be found.
