Luscious Nero d'Avola from one of Sicily's star performers

Vito Catania comes from a proud tradition of vine growers and winemakers in his native Sicily and whilst he has spent his career in the very different sector of engineering, the lure of the vineyard proved too strong. The result is Gulfi, an exceptional young producer based in Ragusa - the ´home´ of Nero d'Avola that focuses on terroir specific, single vineyard bottlings of Sicily's signature red varietal. In the 10 years since its inception the wines made by Gulfi have demonstrated the huge potential of this varietal when old bush vines, careful site selection and exceptional winemaking are combined.

Tasting Note: This Nero D'Avola comes partly from the Bleo Mountains and partly from Pachino. Ruby red, rich and intense red fruit on the nose and palate, finishing with a hint of vanilla, elegant and harmonious.

Critics: Jancis Robinson 17/20 (2012), Vinous - Antonio Galloni 94 Points “Deep Ruby. Perfumed and juicey, offering sweet candied blueberry pie, sweet spices and faded flowers on the nose and in the mouth. Very smooth texture and clean, ripe flavors have pretty floral lift and vinbrancy. A knockout Nerojbleo, one of the best in years, in fact.” 94 Points, Ian D'Agata, Sep 2017.
