Legendary Mavrotragano from the leading lights of winemaking on Santorini - one of the last wines made by Haridimos Hatzidakis
Established in 1996 on vineyards abandoned after the 1956 earthquake, the late Haridimos Hatzidakis brought the experience of being Boutari's chief winemaker to Santorini. He put Santorini Assyrtiko on the map as a unique, unforgetable, fine wine.
Haridimos Hatzidaki experimented with this variety when he worked for Boutari, before setting up on his own. The first-ever bottled vintage was 1997. (Sigalas’s first vintage was 1998, apparently.) 100-year-old and young vines from Pyrgos, Megalochori and Akrotiri. 18 months in third-use cask and 18 months in bottle.
Tasting Note: Vivid red color with bright shades. Aromas of red fruits of the forest, bitter chocolate, smoke and minerality. Strong mouth with powerful tannins, high acidity and long aftertaste.
Critics: Jancis Robinson 17/20, Decanter 93/100 (2013)
