Villány has proved to be a second home for the fine Cabernet Franc grape, and this is a superb example - classic tobacco and spice on the nose, and rich berries on the palate
Sauska is a family-owned and operated winery with vineyards in both Tokaj (NE Hungary) and Villany (SW Hungary). They grow indigenous and international grape varieties and use only the power of gravity and ambient yeasts to craft their wines. The wines run the gamut from sparkling to still; dry to sweet; white, red and rose.
Teamed up with a young, talented and passionate staff Sauska truly enjoy their journey with the desire to make world-class wines, that are precise, elegant and uniquely Hungarian.
Siklós is a village within the wider region of Villány, a famous red wine-producing region in the south of Hungary near the border with Croatia. Cabernet Franc is the signature grape variety for the region, with the warm sun and clay soils giving deep expressive wines with silky tannins. Siklós sits at a higher altitude, with bracing winds that moderate the warm temperatures, giving a wonderful freshness.
After rigorous fruit selection, the grapes are gently crushed and briefly cold soaked in stainless steel tanks. 28-day total maceration in the tank to preserve the character of Cabernet Franc. Aged for 17 months in new and used French oak barrels.
Tasting Note: Seriously rich aromas of tobacco and oriental spices, mostly cardamom, cloves, and a touch of cinnamon. Ripe red and black berries come through on the palate, balanced with wonderful freshness and incredibly silky tannins. A truly fine wine.
