Rare Hungarian Kadarka grape, full of red fruit aromas and a palate of spiced fruit, soft cherry and herbal qualities of earth and black tea
Sauska is a family-owned and operated winery with vineyards in both Tokaj (NE Hungary) and Villany (SW Hungary). They grow indigenous and international grape varieties and use only the power of gravity and ambient yeasts to craft their wines. The wines run the gamut from sparkling to still; dry to sweet; white, red and rose.
Teamed up with a young, talented and passionate staff Sauska truly enjoy their journey with the desire to make world-class wines, that are precise, elegant and uniquely Hungarian.
Crops are grown on soil that is enriched with minerals such as loess, limestone and red clay. Kadarka is the grape that builts its charm on tannins: this is why the wine from here is better than anywhere else. Because there is a large difference of sea-level level between the slanted ground of the vineyard, grapes mature in a hot ditch that keeps in the heat all day and night long.
After crushing and a brief cold-soak. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and small French oak. 30-day total maceration in the tank to preserve the varietal's character. Aged in stainless steel and selected wood.
Tasting Note: Bright, light ruby red color. Flavours of raspberry and redcurrant with a subtle cinnamon spice. Silky smooth texture with very fine tannins. Truly distinctive.
