This barrel matured Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) from the Mosel, less than 1% of Werner's production, is a rival to very fine Burgundy. Classic and luxurious Pinot Noir.
The Werner winery is ranked amongst the oldest-established winegrowing estates near the Mosel river, looking back at a long history.
A family property since 1650, is run by a husband and wife team, Bernhard and Margaret Werner, and has select 6 hectares of steep slope vineyards, and produces some brilliant dry, off-dry and sweet Rieslings and a very rare Mosel Pinot Noir.
Werner’s credo is to work in harmony with nature. The winery places a high value on the natural cultivation of its vineyards. Artificial fertilizers have been replaced with dung and bio-compost. In the cellar, focus is placed on the gentle treatment of grapes and must, which is fermented in three year old French oak barrels.
Tasting Note: Very attractive on the nose, hedgerow fruits with some briar hints. Light on the body, with great aromatic range. Very classic. Silky on the palate, perfect balance for the lovely fruit, long.
